First Day

This year we are doing My Father's World Kindergarten and Adventures.
Luke started at the end of last year and had already completed the Creation, Sun, Mood and Leaf units except for the last day of the Leaf unit.

In Adventures, we made a red, white and blue snack to kick off our study of the United States.

I Finally Got To Start!

With the remodel and new addition to our house, I wasn't able to start when I planned. We finally finished all of the homeschool room except for the tops to the book shelves.

This is my desk. Each child has one bookshelf
     with their school books.

I saw a picture on Pinterest with instruction on how to make cork board walls.
All the brown is cork board.

I found a beautiful green material with dragonflies.
I used the material for the window treatment and to upholstered the chairs.

It's Been A Long Time....

....since my last blog. We finished up Little Hands for His Glory and are now using Beyond Little Hands For His Glory or at least a greatly modified version of BLHFHG. I really like the history portion of BLHFHG. I am adding History Pockets: Plymouth Colony. The kids really like History Pockets. For spelling, both Joshua and Logan are doing Apples & Pears level 1. So far it is going very well. They are both doing Math-U-See Alpha and Artistic Pursuits. Joshua is doing Reading Made Easy and I love, love, love that reading method! He is also doing Singapore Math 1, finishing up the last 2 books in the R&S ABC series, Building Thinking Skills and the Emerging Reader series from HOD. Logan is doing MCP Plaid Phonics, R&S reading and grammar and Cheerful Cursive. We are trying to do RS4k Pre-level 1 Chemistry, but are having hard time finding the time.

I tried doing PreK 4 with Luke, but he wants to do so much more than I had planned and won't let me stop when we are done. I have had to stop and try and figure out what I can do to try to keep him on a schedule. I have ordered ETC Primer series and have merged parts of Little Hands to Heaven with the ETC Primers. Hopefully the primers will arrive in the next couple of days and we can start again.

Homeschooling Star Wars style!

Getting a five year old boy to pay attention to a reading lesson can be a challenge. Joshua has had a few problems focusing the last several days. Today he kept wanting to play Star Wars with Luke, his little brother (not Skywalker). He had two Star Wars Boba Fett figures he wouldn't put down. So,.....I started talking like I was the commander and had 'Boba Fett' read to me. Joshua was so funny. He read in a Boba Fett voice.

Gideon Knocks Down The Idol of Baal

Baal was actually a statue of a cow. I placed little cows on
two of the "idols". I only had two cows, so the third idol
was a sheep.
This week in Little Hearts for His Glory, we studied the story of Gideon and how he knocked down the idol Baal and won the war against the Midianites. (Judges 6) In our Thinking Game, we were to make 'idols of Baal' and throw something to knock them down. The littles really enjoyed trying to knock down the idol!
Trying to use the beanbag to knock down the idols was a
lot harder than I thought it would be. At the end of the
game I let each little knock down one idol with their hands.
The idols have been knocked down.
Have YOU knocked down the idols in your life?
